As many of our clients from the vinyl record days know, the word "flipside" comes from the days when 45 rpm records were popular. Most 45's had the artist’s big hit on the "A" side and a lesser known song on the opposite side. The "B" side was also known as the "flipside." The flipside came to be known for something different or unexpected. It also gave birth to the expression, "I will catch you on the flipside."
